Nature Walk with Mr & Mrs Barn Owls

Set out early today for a brisk walk with the wife, walking through the countryside local to us,

Pendle Hill in the distance still layered with a thin line of snow

Taking Note :)

Even the waterfall was partially frozen still

Then we spotted one of the of Barn Owls that hunt in the area, quietly diving and taking off again without even making a noise (Specialized feathers of the owl enable near-silent flight by altering air turbulence and absorbing noise. The leading edge of an owls feather reduces noise. Owls are known as silent predators of the night, capable of flying just inches from their prey without being detected.)

ree

Not a care in the world with people walking past where he was hunting.

ree

On the same level to my head where I was stood taking pictures, He knew I was stood there and he just kept a distance just to be sure.

ree

Then we had a big shock out of nowhere appeared Mrs Barn Owl, helping out with the hunting. Lets hope Mr & Mrs Owl get busy in the breeding season March to August and produce some owlets

ree

We quietly made our exit, whilst he watched us leave the area from the comfort of a big tree, A quick glance back revealed both of the owls hunting again in the fading light of the evening.

ree

See you next time :)
